How can I play avi converted video files on dvd player ? Need Help !!?

How can I play avi converted video files on dvd player ? Need Help !!?
I have converted the MKV video files to avi format with Total video converter . so I can watch it on normal DVD player not computer. While converting this file I selected avi MPEG in high quality and burned into DVD in without multi session. But I can hear the sound only and message is displayed as video not supported. My dvd player can play the original avi files but not the converted files. Please help ..
